Barbury International Horse Trials get new team & need new sponsor

Barbury International - 2018Barbury International - 2018Barbury International, which this year runs from 4th - 7th July, has a new organising team at the helm. Musketeer Event Management, which already stages Burnham Market and Houghton Internationals as well as numerous One Day Events, has taken over the reins.  They are looking for a new 'title sponsor'.

The future of this local event was thrown into doubt when Event Rider Masters dropped Barbury from their 2019 series and St James's Place ended its long standing title sponsorship.

Leading the team will be Musketeer's Alec Lochore who is a very experienced director of major equestrian events. His previous roles include Eventing Competition Manager at the London Olympics  and for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.  He was Event Director for the Longines FEI European Eventing Championships at Blair Castle in 2015.

The statement announcing the change quoted Alec Lochore: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to take over the running of Barbury International. Since it first ran in 2005, the event has attracted many of the very best athletes in the sport and is a major fixture in the International Eventing calendar."

"British Eventing will always be indebted to Nigel and Penny Bunter who had the vision to start the event, running it up until 2016. I also pay respect to Chris Stone and the Event Rider Masters team who have organised it for the last couple of years and have been so supportive in this transition period."

"My team and I relish the chance to continue its success and build on its established popularity.”

The statement explained where the future of the event now stands: 'As so often happens with big changes, there are new opportunities for high level corporate involvement. St James Place has been a loyal and supportive title sponsor of the event, but the time has come for the company to change its focus.'

'Barbury International can now offer a new title sponsor this exciting chance to join our team...this year's visitors can expect to see a few changes – but also the world class sporting action and family entertainment for which Barbury is so well known.'
