2015 World Hurdle winner Cole Harden retires to Greatwood

Cole Harden gets a taste of Greatwood's grassCole Harden gets a taste of Greatwood's grassThis week, Greatwood Charity was delighted to welcome Cheltenham Festival winner Cole Harden to its Clench Common paddocks, after the 9-year-old gelding was retired from racing due to an injury.

Winner of six races from twenty-four under rules, including the 2015 Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham, Cole Harden will now enjoy his retirement at the Marlborough based charity, which was the first equine welfare organisation in the UK to use former racehorses to educate children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Cole Harden on his way to winning 2015 Ladbrokes World Hurdle at CheltenhamCole Harden on his way to winning 2015 Ladbrokes World Hurdle at CheltenhamRobin and Jill Eynon, have owned Cole Harden since August 2013.  He won his first race in their colours at Worcester and, coincidentally, ran his final race there in August last year.

They are very happy to have found such a good home for 'Cole' - as he's known: "He was such a great servant to us and gave us so many happy memories throughout his racing career, the highlight being of course 2015 Cheltenham Festival. We will now enjoy visiting Cole at Greatwood, where we know he will be cared for fantastically well.”

Cole Harden was trained  in Lambourn by Warren Greatrex:  "What can I say about Cole Harden? He has been an absolute star for the yard and put my career on the map."

"A very tough and consistent horse with a huge will to win. I’m really glad that he has gone to such a great home, where he will be looked after brilliantly in his retirement."

Greatwood’s innovative educational programs are inclusive and are designed for people with cognitive, physical, emotional and social challenges or disabilities.  They aim to make a real difference through facilitating social mobility - challenging the perception of 'success' and 'failure' in a secure and nurturing environment.   Simultaneously they provide those former racehorses that cannot be re-homed with a useful occupation.
