Rabson Manor - a popular equestrian cross country course and training centre is to close

Rabson Manor, a popular BHS Approved Facility which offers a wide variety of cross country fences for grassroots training is to be closed so we understand, because increased insurance and running costs have made the business unviable.

The show jumping and dressage arenas will also close with immediate effect.

The owners of the site near Avebury announced the move on Facebook, saying: “George and I are so sad.

“We’ve met so many wonderful people over the years.

“And want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing times we have had with you.
“It truly made us feel so happy seeing so many happy riders and horses and having made so many special memories.”

Organisers of camps and events have also been informed of cancellation. Hundreds of well wishers paid tribute to owners George and Gill Horton.

“Such sad news, what a loss to the area, only looked this week to see when you’re reopening as keen to get back out practicing. Your support for the riding club has been very much appreciated over the years. Good luck for the future xx” wrote Lottie Parkin.

“This is such a tragedy…. for you, us and many, many others. We are so very sorry you have been forced to reach this decision and want to thank you for all of the fabulous memories and the great help you have offered to so many horses, ponies, riders, mums and dads. Wishing you the very best going forward (and if you set up any kind of petition against these increased costs, know a zillion people will sign it!)” wrote Debbie Crapper.
