Eventing: Boekelo sees New Zealand win in tight finish with Team GB
The main event at the Boekelo International Horse Trials in the Netherlands (October 9-12) was the final round of this year’s International Federation Eventing Nations Cup series.
The final competition was won by the New Zealand team who finished just 1.6 penalty points ahead of the British team. The New Zealanders were without Sir Mark Todd and Andrew Nicholson – but were with Mildenhall-based Tim Price on Bango.
The British team suffered some bad luck when Laura Collett on her new horse Grand manoeuvre came third overall in the dressage. And after the dressage the British bteam led, but the cross country saw some re-arrangement of the leader board and some ropped penalties. Laura, who is now based at Lambourn, was riding with four broken metatarsals in a foot after a fall last month.
After nine events through the season, the German team became Nations Cup competition series champions. Great Britain came second four points behind.
