Worthington’s 'remember together' family raceday returns to Newbury Racecourse
Start your half term the right way with some fresh air and great family fun at Newbury Racecourse, where Under 18s go Free on Saturday, 26 October for Worthington’s ‘Remember Together’ Family Raceday.
It is Newbury's final Flat meeting of 2019 and there is always great racing - focused around the Group 3 Molson Coors Brewing Company Stakes (Registered as the Horris Hill Stakes) - and a great atmosphere to bring the curtain down on another season.
One of the highlights of the day will be the launch of the Berkshire & Vale of White Horse Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, an incredible spectacle for all. This will involve the delivery of a Poppy which once again will be by helicopter.
Two local secondary schools have compiled art exhibitions focusing around a poppy display. And there will be the opportunity to take part in an art workshop with Brush Party. Adding to the fun, children can be transformed to whatever their imaginations take them - from princess to ferocious tiger by our incredible face painter. All these activities are available on the day for free.
The Household Cavalry will be in attendance with a recruitment truck and two troopers in ceremonial dress. From Homefront History, there will be vehicles and volunteers who will be taking part in re-enactments and tableaus - dressed in vintage uniforms.
Out on the track, the racing features two Group 3 Races – The Victoria Club Stakes (Registered as the St Simon Stakes) and The Molson Coors Brewing Company Stakes (Registered as the Horris Hill Stakes).
Last year's running saw a dead heat in the Victoria Club Stakes, with Morando and Young Rascal sharing the honours. The 2018 Molson Coors Brewing Company Stakes was won by Mohaather (see photo above) who went on to win the Group 3 Watership Down Stud Greenham Stakes back at Newbury. It’s always a great chance to see stars of the future in action.
The end of the 2019 Flat season will be marked with the racecourse's own season awards: The Newburys. Acknowledging the season’s leading owner, trainer and jockey at the Berkshire track, as well as the Moment of the Season which is voted for by the public. You can book tickets for Newbury's 26 October raceday here.
As always, there is free entry for Armed Forces personnel past and present. Please call 01635 40015 to redeem.
